Program of the Dedicatory Services for the Bountiful 9th, 18th Ward Chapel
In April 1954, just over a year after the organization of their ward, members of the 9th ward purchased land for their own chapel. The place on Center Street had been an orchard and for the next several years, ward members picked and sold peaches that went toward the building fund. The rest of the construction money came from monthly subscription dinners and assessments to members. Ward members paid a portion of the construction costs, the rest came from Salt Lake City.
On May 1, 1959, Elder LeGrand Richards of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles dedicated the building site signaling the beginning of the construction phase. 18 days later, building plans were approved leading to the start of construction in June.
On January 24, 1960, the Bountiful Utah 9th Ward was divided and the Bountiful 18th Ward was organized.
Latter-day Saint buildings had to be completely paid for before they were dedicated. Through the sacrifice and consecration of members of the Bountiful 9th and 18th Wards, the chapel debt was paid off within a few years leading the way for the chapel dedication by Elder Richard L. Evans of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles on June 14, 1964.
Organizers of that service produced a beautiful program, selections of which follow. This note of appreciation at the front of the program captures the spirit of that momentous event:
"After thousands of hours of work so unselfishly given, the building is now complete. We, as your bishoprics, are sincerely appreciative of the time, money, and efforts each has donated to make this project possible.
"Continue to take advantage of the Lord's work in His house With His spirit in attendance and with the cooperation of all, we should be able to enjoy this structure for many years to come.
"May the Lord continue to bless you.
"The 9th and 18th Ward Bishoprics."
