Ninth Ward Outing at Anderson Cove at Pineview Reservoir, 1973
(Video Clip 1)
There's something haunting about watching silent 8 mm film. Some might say nostalgic, but I still feel like it's a little bit spooky. As I watch these 50-year-old video clips of a ward outing, I feel a little bit voyeuristic, like I'm watching something not intended for me. Like I'm trespassing on friends who are putting their guards down and willing to be open and vulnerable.
And then I try to come up from my deep thoughts and I think, "Dang, the Ninth Ward really likes to party. What fun."
Thanks, Lynn Larsen, for passing these wonderful videos along. I'd love to have those who knew these folks identify them. We showed clips of this in a planning meeting and some said, "There's Vonda," and "There's Stick and Melba."
I had to shorten the video into approximately 30-minute clips so that they would fit in the blog. I've numbered the videos if you'd like to identify people in the comments below. Just note the video clip number and describe the people you identify.
