More Larry Smith Photos via Glenn Goodrich

Glenn Goodrich keeps discovering wonderful photos of the 9th Ward. We should all thank Larry Smith for sharing these treasures with us. Here are a couple of photos that deserve several minutes of analysis and pondering. What do you see? One thing stood out for certain, who talked that kid into refereeing the adult basketball game? And I loved the shoes.
Glenn wrote of the basketball photo, "A 'blast from the past' 1975. From left to right: Referee Richard Smith, Don Francis, Lee Maxwell, Referee Blaine Benard, ?, ?, ?, Roger Fluhman, Michael Stapley and Bud Benard.
Study the faces of these boys. Look at all of them. Regardless of whatever else they did, or did not do, in their lives, these women accepting the calling to teach these boys earned them a free pass into heaven. I would love to know who showed up with the rifle and pistol and if everyone thought it was a good idea. I'm sure the boys loved them. Did you know that the older primary boys had bandoliers and received recognitions for completing certain tasks? The first row of boys are obviously the youngest while the back row with their neckerchiefs were the oldest. Can anyone make out the posters on the easels? So much to study.
Glenn's commentary on this second photo: "WHO CAN SOLVE THE MYSTERY? This appears to be a 'Blazer A & B" group. The leaders on the back row are Josephine Droge, Dorothy Case?, Eluise Roberts, Zina Fisher, Jean Barlow?, and who is the lady in red? And the biggest question of all: WHAT IS A REAL RIFLE AND HANDGUN in the holster doing in this gruop?"
