9th Ward Relief Society History Scrapbook

Our Relief Society, over several decades, has kept a history of itself through scrapbooks and photo albums. This is one of those scrapbooks. The others will come in the coming days and weeks.

What a remarkable historical document. One gets a pretty good idea of the history and activities of the Bountiful 9th Ward Relief Society by perusing its pages. It is interesting to ponder on why the creator(s) of this scrapbook included what they did while excluding other things.

The maker of this book seemed to want to firmly plant the history of the 9th Ward Relief Society within the larger story of Restoration and the history of the General Relief Society.

The introduction to this book written in March 1958, captures this desire, "We of this generation owe much to the women who organized the Relief Society. Beginning in a pioneering era, the Society has kept pace with the advancing century, holding fast to its original purposes, yet adapting its program to the changing era."

This blog is not the ideal way to share these scanned pages of the Relief Society history. Possibly, some would like to zoom in on the photos or make the text easier to read. I will work with the Relief Society presidency to make sure that the scans of the cookbooks and these scrapbooks/histories are available to any who would like a copy.
